Snow Tank | Ground Effect/ Flying Sled

This is the snow tank, it is very good in deep snow. It flys similar to the nut ball. We made a version with and without dihedral. The version with dihedral was much more stable, and overall flew much better. Without dihedral is was much more squirrely, but was better at aerobatics. To keep the hatch shut we pushed a pushrod through then trimmed the ends. Then just put a rubberband over and it will keep it shut. These are the 2 different versions.

We are using 1300mah 3s batteries and getting about 15 minutes of flight. But with the setup we are using we could use 4s batteries. But on 3s there is plenty of power, it can go verticle easily. We would reccomend using the FT waterproof foam because if you are making this it will probably be used in snow/water. We have only tested it on very shallow water, but it worked very well. You can see how large the tune are (4in tall).

In deep snow it preforms very well. When you land in snow it doesn't sink/get stuck at all. We tested in in 6in deep powder snow and it did great. On ice it is very fun, "it can turn on a dime". If you get the speed right you can get it to go into the ground effect. When in the gound effect it is just skimming along the ice. After using this for hours the tunes show some signs of wear and tear. So we would reccomend laying some tape on the tunes. The tunes are 6in wide.

We are running a a NTM Prop drive 1200kv motor with a 9x6 prop. With a 9in prop there is plenty of clearance with the demensions we used. The motor is angled up slightly for the best preformance.

We highly reccomend building the snow tank. The first one we built took about 3 hours. But the second one we built took around 2 hours because we started to get the process down. You could use a different setup but we reccomend you stay around a 1300mah battery. If enough of you want we could release plans and or a build video!

I'd also like to see some plans - this looks like a good Boy Scout construction/education project we can do.
