Snowmula Racer Challenge

To the FliteTest Community;

We know the FliteTest community is all about planes, however, for the MESArcFF team in the winter, we find new ways of implementing our rc plane equipment.  In the past we have done Floor Warriors, which proved to be a lot of fun and we received a ton of collaboration ideas from out viewers on how to create some awesome floor warrios. See link for video on the warriors: http://youtu.be/e2z-SHq31UU

This episode features the coming of our latest challenge called the Snowmula 1, (inspired by the Formula 1 racing boats), rc equipment on a light vehicle that can go on snow!  This particular design is by no means the way to go, however, a spark for our students and viewers to create and test their own.  It has a thrust vectoring motor system designed and created using our laser cutter, and the boat, 4 cell lipo with 75amp esc.

Enjoy watching and please create your own and share your ideas with our students!

When is the updated version coming out? I'm half way through my build and need to know what works best for the steering setup... Thanks, Ed & Spencer

Thanks for the update, I am at the mercy of the students, I go at their speed. Some are working on it though. I would like to see yours though?

Thanks,

Awesome fun, but I'm thinking it will be a while before we get some snow down here in Central Florida. Have you thought about perhaps modeling it after an airboat. The dynamics for turning on snow aren't much different that an airboat turning on water I'd imagine. Great Video guys, keep up the great work.

Yes, probably not much snow down there. We have actually, there is some kids that might create one just like that of an airboat. Thanks for the suggestion.

I live in Minnesota so having one of Snowmula's would be great to have with me when ice fishing and the bite slows down. I also think that you are right on having some sort of snow rudder along with the thrust vectoring. I would try having the added rudder about 1/8 to maybe 1/4 of an inch deeper then the little skids that were on the bottom of the boat.

Good luck and have fun. Love watching all of your videos.

Or even better, stick it to a fishing line and when you see the line tug you take off with it, lol. Now that would be fun to watch, might just have to try that one. Yes, the kids are thinking that way too, I only said because they did before taking that shot. I am assuming when they make theirs there will be a rudder in place. Thanks for the comment and advice.

Well just like bladezx2 I am far enough south that snow is something of a rarity. Water is everywhere....maybe snowmula could be adapted as air boat. Yep that does it! I am building one! Great work woth the students Mesa. It is great to see the next generation discovering flight.

That would be cool, shoot some pics over when you are done, the kiddos would be interested in it. We are always looking for cool ideas to implement in the classroom.

Thanks for the comment,

Absolutely. Probably not going to get a whole lot done in the next few days in preparation for santas arrival, but I will definitely send pictures of what I end up with.

You should try a hydrofoam! They are great for all seasons water, grass, snow... and still fly!
