FPV Raiden, Purpose designed FPV ship?

 FPV Raiden Version 3.0

Hello again friends.

I would like to share my latest plane design with you. It's a purpose built FPV plane with forward swept wings and canards.

I could go on and on about how great I think the FPV Raiden is, but I think I'm biased. Just watch the video, Decide for yourself. Let me say I'm not a good FPV pilot, it's all the plane.

History

If you have seen my article of the Raiden (Here). You'll see what a stable, nice flying plane it is. After a while of flying, I was thinking "wonder how it would do with a camera". Of course I had to try.

The results are amazing. Raiden flies slow with very good maneuverability, which makes it good for proximity flying. It climbs quickly to fly over obstacles, it descends well to fly under power lines and trees. The only negative thing, it wasn't cosmetically appealing. So, I figured since the fuselage is in two pieces, why not redesign the nose to house a camera and the video transmitter. This would make the build look cleaner, and protect the video gear, well as much as you can with foam. Back to doodling in SketchUp.

Perks

  •  Its size makes it a good "throw in the truck plane". At 40 x 38, you don't have to fight something with a 5 foot wing span, or mess with a removable wing.
  • The Canopy is easily removed to allow access to batteries and video equipment.
  • Its lite weight construction coupled with its large wing area and canard design makes it fly slower.
  • The unconventional forward swept, canard design makes this plane unstallable.
  • For 5 bucks worth of foam and a hand full of electronics that you probably have laying around, you can build a really nice FPV plane.

 The Plans

Here

To build the Standard line of sight version, you'll need the LOS Fuse.pdf, Left Wing.pdf, Right Wing .pdf and Spars & Canards.pdf  36 sheets of printer paper, tiled.

To build the FPV version, you'll need the FPV Fuse.pdf, Left Wing.pdf, Right Wing.pdf, Spars & Canards.pdf and FPV Canopy.pdf 38 sheets of printer paper, tiled

The Build

Specs

  • FPV Raiden has a wing span of 40 inches. Its 38 inches long from nose to prop.
  • AUW on my build 1lbs. 15.65 oz
  • Total wing area: 4.295 sq ft @ 31.65 oz = 7.369oz/sq ft

Hardware

  • 2212 1400kv motor like this or this.
  • 10 inch motor or battery lead extension.
  • 2- 9 gram servos.
  • 25 - 30amp ESC.
  • 2200mah 20c battery.
  • 8 X 4 Prop.
  • Your favorite 3 channel receiver (Radio must be elevon capable).
  • 4  1/4 sheets of DTFB or RossFB + hot glue.
  • This is not a swappable. The hull isn't big enough to accommodate the FT power pod. It does use a standard FT fire wall.

I hope you enjoy my unconventional FPV plane as much as I do.

I'm crossing my fingers, maybe FT will consider the Raiden in both configuration for a community build.

Thanks for looking.

Enjoy the hobby as cheap as you can my friends.
