Have you guys ever thought of doing a live pod cast thing (Just audio) So people could comment while you guys are talking? Awesome podcast btw!

We actually have done that a couple times even took phone calls but it didn't always work. I would love to try it again sometime soon -Chris

I always look forward to these podcasts. I was listening to them on the way out to the field last flying season, and then while I am building over this winter (although it is technically spring today). Enjoyed hearing your guys while I was building tonight - keep 'em coming - you guys are great. Excellent that you actually posted the pic of that sad plane in the crest of the tree - as good as the visualization while you were talking.

AS3X... imho it is important to know what it IS and what it ISN'T... it IS a system that counteracts gusts and can maintain a heading IF the sticks are released. That's ALL really.
SAFE, in tandem with an AS3X receiver, limits an aircraft to movement WITHIN a particular envelope, which can INCLUDE the famous PANIC RECOVERY.
I'm programming an AR636 receiver at the moment for a BIxler 1 and I'm a bit surprised and disappointed by how much of the really cool stuff is SAFE and NOT AS3X. Spektrum CR tell me that public CANNOT program an AS3X receiver to DO SAFE.

I do think that you all (y'all ?) should buy some AS3X receivers (AR636 ?) and really learn what you are talking about.

There is annoyingly little information available to guide RATE GAIN and HEADING GAIN settings for various types of aircraft. This is something that Flite Test could be helping with imho.

By the way, is it possible that people who have a lot of trouble with AS3X might be those who have a habit of releasing their sticks?

If I want to add stability/SAFE to a glow-powered airplane, what is the best body of knowledge for me to read up on what I have to do?

Hmm, well SAFE is proprietary to Spektrum so we can rule that out. AS3X is like I said above, plus... there is a great set of videos on YouTube from HH's John Adams, no.14 is the one that interests us, 'Gain and Priority' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6Y_PVBBoCc&spfreload=10 I downloaded all these videos and wtch/listen to them on a playlist to try and drill it into my head.

I actually do have a couple ar636 receivers and have played around with the settings through there app and sometimes it can get overwhelming and I agree with you there are great YouTube vids out there. The point of the discussion really was to get some opinions of why people don't like it and get there reasons. I for for one really enjoy the AS3X and SAFE and think it just makes for a more enjoyable flight experience- Chris

Thanks for sharing my crash story! I think I will tape the wing screw to my face next time, to really remember them.

Great podcast! Regarding Andres P40, I have the exact same plane. It does have a tendency to drop out of the sky, but I don't think it's because of the as3x. It is a warbird, and honestly somewhat underpowered. If you aren't careful when turning, it will tipstall, and no amount of stabilization will help against that :)

With that in mind, I really enjoy that plane, you just have to learn how to fly it. Keep the speed up, and use the rudder to make coordinated turns, and it will fly great :)

I'm looking forward to really testing it under the right conditions. Like anything above zero. ;)
