BlackOut Mini H-Quads - Let's Fly!

The guys are flying the BlackOut Mini H-Quad and Mini Spider Hex in today's Let's Fly!


These multi-rotors are equipped with the Immersion RC 5.8GHz 600mW Tx. The best part was we had three of these running at the same time with no issues.


The SpiroNET Omni 5.8GHz CP Antenna has a new stiffer arm that holds it's position when adjusted. No more floppy antennas!



Josh Scott is flying the Kraken while the boys get some footage and just generally bug him in the air.

To say the least these guys can take a beating. Any by beating we mean full throttle straight into the ground. Check out the episode to see the carnage!

Loved the episode! It's good to see others enjoy their BlackOut frames as much as I enjoy mine. Pricey, but well worth the money IMO.

The blackout quads seem like a great little frame and I am very impressed that they can carry a GoPro. Are there any other motors that are more economical that someone could recommend?

In the micro multirotor realm there are only a few choices for the time being. The cheap end are the RCX 1804 2400kv motors at 9 bucks a pop. They're also the weakest of the bunch and there will always be some slight QC issues. Mid way are the Sunnysky x2204 2300kv motors. They'll run you $20 a piece but are fantastic build quality and power. On the pricier side of things are the T-motor MN1806 2300kv which weigh in at a wallet whimpering $40+. Fantastic build quality, however some say they're only a little better than the Sunnys performance wise but have a slightly better response overall. These motors are intended to be paired with 5x3 props and a 3S lipo.

There's one more choice out there if you demand running 4S that is well known, which are the Cobra 2204/32 1960kv motors. I've read they're alright on 3S with 6" props and are absolutely wonderful with 5" and 4S packs. David is running a different choice from these, not sure what ones they are.

Thanks for the reply. I recently switched from DT750's to Sunnysky x2212 980kv's on my tricopter and have been very happy with the quality and performance, so I would probably check these out. I also noticed that Readytoflyquads has a very similiar mini h-quad that is foldable called "BAH Mini H Foldable Frame V2.1"... I wonder how this compare?

Another great episode. Can you please give a little more detail of the setups you use in future episodes. It would be great to know what motors, ESC and batteries your using and what flights times your getting with them...
A little question for Davis too. You say about using the 600mw TX for the FPV, but in Europe we're now limited to 25mw on the 5.8 system. Can you do a episode on getting the best and most economic setup for us in Europe.

Just another company flooding the review channels with overpriced stuff to make their share same like that TBS trash. Even the microhexa concept is several years old. So at the end of the day another company pressing overpriced junk into the market like those blacksheep guys.. Go buy it because it's sooo coooool.

Great Video! did you consider the cosine effect when measuring ground speed coz true speed wound be must greater but off course much more dangerous for the guy holding the gun!

Hey guys can you let us know what flight controllers you are using on these little black hot rods. Maybe you could add a list of all the components used in each of the builds.

BTW you guys are so lucky to have such a great flying area.

..maybe a bit too careless flying, is it's just me but if I'm spending that much money on a quad/hex, I would be more careful. (then again, nobody is sending me any freebies) Fails and crashes are some times funny but don't make it a main theme. (we want the UK Top Gear, not the US Top Gear ;)

Was it just me, or did spektrum brownout repeatedly? I think I read in the fatshark manual that their channels 2-8 on 5.8ghz may cause interference for 2.4ghz control. Is spektrum that weak? Doesn't seem like that should be happening. Maybe the spektrum-hating on fpv forums is for a reason. Anyone have any thoughts on that? I don't like things that I'm flying to drop out of the sky.
