How to "Rubber Band Powered" Quadcopter

What do you do if you are a IC Aeronautics student that is stuck doing online work all day and you have no creative time like back in the shop? Well Ashley has a cool idea, take common house hold items and try to make something fly only powered by rubber bands. With some creativity, a cool at home workshop, and some grit, watch Ashley as she shows off her engineering skills by trying to get a rubber band powered quad fly. She has offered up the challenge to other students around the FT community that are stuck at home, have fun and please share with us!

She made her propellers out of plastic dixie cubs glued to a center blob of glue, the frame out of straws, and some rubbers bands that shot through the legs of the aircraft that also helped generate thrust.


After 3 tires and a little grit she was able to get the aircraft to fly!

Well done Ashley, using a straw to house the motor is a great idea and similar devices were used back in the 1960's and earlier when I started aero modelling. The idea could be used to power some free flight models from the FT range. You have inspired me to try a free flight rubber powered Long Ez. Thanks for the inspiration. Neil (59 and 3/4's)
