Ritewing Drak Maiden & Review

Hey guys this is Jeremiah owner of Stone Blue Airlines and I’m excited to announce the upcoming arrival of our newest addition to our store, the Rite Wing Drak! –

The first time I saw the Drak was in a teaser Ritewing released. I fell in love with it then and there. I had to get my hands on one! Immediately I reached out to Ritewing to learn more about this awesome looking wing.  What I found was a company just as passionate about flight as I was. My expectations were very high as to how this plane would fly and handle in the air. We prefer to offer North American made aircraft in the store and we hoped the Drak would live up to our expectations.

The SBA custom shop (headed by our talented master craftsman Matt) had ours built up in less than two weeks.  Keep in mind this was during Matt's "spare time" as we are building other planes for customers, but it shows how quick a great plane like this can go together.  This plane is so new; we have one of the few pre-production units in our hands and only one of four in the world as of this writing.  The build went smooth, without any surprises, a testament to the platform’s design refinement. Like no EPP plane before, the Drak possesses the capability to retain its design refinements consistently. It will be one of the first EPP planes moulded instead of cut. Current EPP designs are limited by the motion of a hot wire cutter, and by the inconsistency of densities within the EPP blocks they are cut from. The Drak possesses the potential to be a game changer!

The video in the article covers our first three flights of the Drak from maiden, to trimming, to our initial thoughts.

You will see just how impressed we were with its flight envelope.  You will also see how intimidated we were with the size and power of this aircraft. From its first flight, however, we found it behaved like an old friend, that trusty comfortable plane you always turn to and could never consider getting rid of. Yes, it was that good!

The set up used for the Drak in our video was:

Ritewing Secret Sauce power pack

Emax 17 gram metal gear analog servos

DTF UHF for flight control

VAS semi-rigid dipole antenna

1.3GHz 400mW Tx 2Ch USA

VAS 1.3 Bluebeam Ultra for video

Well now that I wrote all this I need to go fly it again see what you made me do?

Any question just leaves them below I will get back with you.

Thanks for checking out this plane and I think you will see like we did it is one worth buying.

Matt the Builder had this to say about the Drak:

“The Drak is primarily a heavy lift commercial drone that hobbyist have access to. That said, there is a level of refinement and complexity to this design, in it's production and hardware that transcends hobby quality. The primary market for the Drak is commercial and governmental end user. Our prototype Drak is decorated as a sport plane and is outfitted light with a vector and FPV gear to showcase that this platform is not limited to its more serious applications. That said, the hobbyist who owns a Drak operates a serious aerial platform that exceeds what he has come to expect from hobby grade toys. The Drak is not for everyone, and it is not competing with $50 planes even though it is easier to fly than most beginner wings.”

The modular nature of the airframe allows for quick and easy field repairs.

The airframe allows for a tremendous speed envelope of 35-80 mph

Another benefit of the EPP airframe is the high durability of the EPP will ensure many years of active use.

In conclusion, the StoneBlueAirlines crew was very satisfied with the quality of materials, ease of build, and capabilities of this airframe.  While this wing is designed and marketed to commercial organizations and government agencies it is still within the price range of the serious hobbyist.  The Drak is designed to carry heavy payloads with ease at a wide range of speeds without sacrificing performance.  It flew great, required very little trip, tracked amazing, and will be an excellent platform for anyone interested in a serious UAS for fun or work. -

hello all,
this wing has some similarities of F-302 fighter-interceptor from stargate series.
It would be nice to find if is possible to modify this design.
