Speed is all you need...

When I flew my first scratch build plane a few weeks ago (the BF109) I was amazed how fast you get used to the speed of à model. The FT Racer wood then also be the next build, but  the idea to have a small fast bird brought me to the pylon racers.

The wings would be à little longer as I hoped it to float better.

To be sure to have strength enough into the wings I glued a carbon rib in the wing.
Due to the fact that I reduced the plans I decided to leave out the rudder servo and used only 3 servo’s off 5 grams.

From Hobby king I received the floater jet replacement motor of 2150kv 44gr , and the battery wood be something not to heavy so I shoos à 3 cell 800mamp batter of 70 gr.
The propeller is a 5 x 5

I did not bother to match about colors or looks, I only wanted it to be a quick build to test what this motor could do when I fired it up.

The maiden was again not à success, the plane was going in a tork roll as soon as it launched.
Therefore I rebuild the motor fixation and put in a huge angel to the right and below.

The second test again gave a spin to the left and à nose into the ground. So I started to test with lead into the tip of the right wing, and so I came up with 10gr.

I Hand launched it again and with 80% of power the plane raised to the sky and as soon as it was 3 mistakes hi , I cut the power to half.
This little bird flew nice, but whooo…. what speed  was this thing going? I did some test with full  power and I realized very quickly that this would be my little adrenaline raiser.

What i needed to do was use more expo ( 40%) and mix the trottle with the elevator.
à little bid downforce on hi power was needed.

My Sisters son of 10years old who by the way filmed the video with his Pad, was amazed and after à little discussion we baptized the plane “ The Stinger”

nice looking plane, are you modified the wing? look more slim and more wingspan.

Great looking build. What did you use to get such a nice and glossy finish? Did you water-proof it with anything?

Hello

The glossy finish is a tin coat of clear lacquer, this gives me also the possibility to fix the printed decals better.

The wing is the resold of reducing the plans to 65% and stretching the outlines of the wing.
I wanted à little more pylon type racer.

and yes i liked the decals :)

Can you please provide details on your unsuccessful attempts, why they happened, and how you solved them:

The maiden was again not à success, the plane was going in a tork roll as soon as it launched.
Therefore I rebuild the motor fixation and put in a huge angel to the right and below.
The second test again gave a spin to the left and à nose into the ground. So I started to test with lead into the tip of the right wing, and so I came up with 10gr.

The torque roll to the left happened at hand launching, and full throttle.
This motor is an hi kv motor. What I have done, is mounting the motor in an angle to the right (seen from behind) +/- 8degr, and a little down angel.
When I power up to the maximum the plane was going up also. So I put in a little angel down also.
I fly now with expo on 40% but 100% of throw and with a mix on the throttle and elevator.
Max throttle gives 10% down on the elevator. ( Spectrum DX6i)
As I had more practice I found out that hand launching only can be done as following…I hand launch the plane level with the ground, not up, to avoid tip staling.

been having similar problems with my dog fighter , even with a brushless 480 2200 kv motor and 3 cell 2200 mah battery all the way to the front i cant get enough nose weight. It is so squirley in the air im running 50 percent expo in the low range. also i have managed to get the torque roll under control by methods that you also are using but @#&% does it climb when i cob it. i crash it 50 percent of the time i fly it. i love the idea of making it work like i want cuz slow and easy bores me but im about ready to trash it and stick with rear pusher wings like my strykers to get my speed thrill
