Turnigy 9x - FrSky DJT Module Mod

I just got in a FrSky DJT module for my Turnigy 9x transmitter. But when I tried to install it, it didn't fit. I thought I had gotten a defective unit until I searched the usual forums. I found someone that had an identical issue and modified the DJT module. Then I found a thread on the Hobby King forum that said that the same issue existed with other brands of modules and the falut was with the Turnigy 9x.

It seems that the plastic at the bottom of the connector pins is too tall. So here is how I remedied the situation.

Here's a quick overview of the mod with a numbered picture for reference.

1) Remove the module and locate the pins in the bay.

2) Remove the four screws holding the PCB onto the back cover.

3) Slide the PCB away from the back cover so the pins come free of the base. You can just let the PCB hang while cutting the base down.

4) I used a dremel with cutting wheel to trim the height of the base.

5) Slide the pins back through the holes and test the fit of the module. Remove more material if necessary. When it fits, secure the PCB to the back cover with the four screws and reassemble the radio. Clean up any residue with a blade or screw driver.

This mod should make the Turnigy 9x compatible with any JR style module.

I love the FrSky/9x combo. If you don't have a dremel, the plastic that sticks up around the pins is thin enough you can get rid of it with an x-acto knife. Very nice mod previously to be able to program it, by the way.

Thanks,

I am playing around with OpenTX on my 9x and may try the mod to enable the FrSky telemetry. If I do, I'll post that as well.

Hey hi!
I am following almost everything you publish and I always used Flysky but after finding out about the advantages of Frsky I wanted to try this mod. I have a Turnigy 9x with backlight mod and Er9x but when I try to use it with a DJT module I can't really work it out. Can you help me please?

The module seems to be working as LED and beeps make sense as what I have seen from videos. People get the same reaction fom the module. For example as a beginning I wanted to try the Eachine FB90 Fatbee (Frsky version) and I put it into binding mode then start the transmitter in the binding mode minding the switch positions of the module but no luck
I tried everything I could think of so I am asking for help now :D
