How to get started and understand the wonderful world of FPV (first person view)

What is Fpv?

Fpv stands for first person view which is when a RC model has a camera which transmit's video to the user on the ground and can fly their model via that camera.

How do I start my FPV experience?

First you need to get some fpv gear but before you order anything you need to choose a frequency! (warning some frequencies may be illegal in the country your in!). Here is a list of frequencys below.

900 Mhz
1.3 ghz
2.4 ghz
5.8 ghz

You can read below on what one would be best for you!

900 mhz

Is very good for when you fly behind obstacles, and also good for long range. But you may get interference from mobile phones.

1.3ghz

You probebly will need A "Ham license". I do not know alot about it but you can simply Google search it.

2.4ghz

Good frequency to be on, but since of spektrum and other radio transmitter companys now use 2.4ghz to control peoples model aircraft. So do not fly you model on 2.4ghz and fpv on 2.4ghz!!!

5.8ghz

Very good quality compared to the other frequencys, I personally use this for my Fpv setup because I am very interested in movie making so I like to see good quality! The range on 5.8ghz isnt the best but im sure you can easily change it.

What now?

Well know you have probebly chosen your frequency you need to order it. You dont need to buy the best gear but get one thats going to work for your needs! You can upgrade your fpv setup which is also annother cool thing.

Once you have your fpv gear you can now assemble, and test it! #fun

You can watch videos on youtube to see how to setup your fpv gear, its very easy!

Attatch it to your model!

In my case I am putting my fpv gear onto my quadcopter, which I use for movie making.

here is a photo of the camera on my quadcopter. As you can see the cap is on the fpv camera but you can also see that I have it mounted ontop of the plate which holds the gopro gimbal. I did this so I wont get any vibrations on my screen. You will also need something to display the video on. You can buy some Fatsharks which are goggles or you can use a simple 7 inch car monitor or your computer to view the video feed.

(THE IMAGE IS SIDEWAYS!) SORRY

Now you can test your range with your fpv gear!

All you need todo is have someone look at the monitor which displays the image and what you can do is walk away from the reciever and then when the person says the image on the monitor has gone completely you simply count in meters how far you got away! Its always good todo this before a flight because you dont want to risk flying and your signal just drops straight away!

Extend your Range!

You can extend your range by having a better antenna. I wont talk about it in this article but there are some fantastic youtube videos which show you what types of antennas there are and what dbi is! For now what you can do for $5 to 20 dollars is get a long wooden pole and put your reciever at the top, and your other gear like batterys and wires around it! Or simply attatch your fpv reciever to a tripod to make it as high as possible! Which can help extend your range! I would say it could extend the range by 5 - 15 meters which can help!

Thanks for reading I will add more information to this article soon!

Thinking of getting one of the fat shark kits that come with every thing. I just thought that you just get what you need and didn't know a thing about frequency and all. I guess that I need to find out just what frequency I need. I do need the best setup

Cool well fat sharks are a really good way to go! I personally use 5.8ghz but 2.4 is just as good but maybe will allow you to go behindthick buildings. If you need j
