Awesome episode guys!
Here in europe i see more Futaba then Graupner actually. I think Spektrum is a bit crap because i had this dx6i and had it over 1 year and suddently last summer it stops working (was flying my DLG about 80m high 20 mins flight and suddently it fell from the sky no control for 2 sec and also my quad fell from the sky deadstick suddently?!?!) i learned of a Futaba 6EX mode one and i have a Futaba t9cp now and it is so damn good!
Also i have the diffent flight modes all on a row for you:

Mode 1:
Left stick: Elevator and Rudder
Right stick: Throttle and Aileron

Mode 2:
Left stick: Throttle and Rudder
Right stick: Elevator and Aileron

Mode 3:
Left stick: Elevator and Aileron
Right stick: Throttle and Rudder

Mode 4:
Left stick: Throttle and Aileron
Right stick: Elevator and Rudder

Haven't listened to the podcast yet so I don't know if you solved it yet, but could it be that the transmitter is "stuck" on a rangecheck mode or something? Or have you opened up the receiver to see if the antennas are soldered on OK and not broken maybe?

What do you mean, you haven't listened to the podcast, yet? 😀

The tx doesn't seem to be stuck in range test because it does reduce the distance of communication from about 8 feet to 4 feet. Not exactly confirmation on that one.

I did open up both the rx and tx and nothing appears incorrect. Next step is reflashing the two.

Thanks, Andrea!

Joel, I live in CFL too but I have not experienced any hot glue joint failures, that could be because most of my planes meet their early demise due a bad case of blunt force trauma. I'm sure you already know that there are a batch of bad glue sticks out there that Josh talked about in an episode, can't remember which; however, the give away is that they were foggy and not clear.

What is this "Ground School" you speak of? And is it available to anyone that you would want to read?
