Strix Stratosurfer | Flite Test

A big shout-out to ReadymadeRC for creating a pusher-trainer platform that is basically the best we’ve ever flown. (Yes, even better than the Bixlers 1 and 2!) They’ve taken a tried and true design and made it even better with the Strix Stratosurfer. They built upon what’s been proven to be a platform that even the greenest beginners can fly to become a plane that can add features that the most seasoned pilot can enjoy as well!

What we like:

  • Molded fuselage made from plastic (more durable)
  • Price point ($139.95)
  • Hollow fuselage with plywood reinforcements to allow for housing batteries and gear
  • Multiple mounts for cameras (GoPros, FPVs, RunCams)
  • Wings stay in with four screws (no mid-air slide outs)
  • One screw to replace motor if needed
  • Tried and true design (Skysurfer; same as Bix1 and 2)
  • You can grow with it over time (add FPV)
  • Durable and forgiving
  • Fun and fast
  • Great for flying in groups

Specs:

  • Wing span: 1500mm (59”)
  • Length: 1000mm (39”)
  • Battery: 3300-8000 3s
  • Foam: EPO
  • Max prop size: 6”
  • Controls: 4-6 channel
  • Price: $139.95

There's been a plastic FPV plane for a while now. The Volentex Raptor and the large Ranger are both hollow plastic fuselage planes and they fly great. The Raptor and Ranger can hold some HUGE batteries. The Raptor is and enlarged Phoenix 2000 which means it has a full 2 meter wing span. It can fly for very long periods.

I have the Volatex Raptor. I does hold some pretty large batteries yes. But the thing flies terrible. It has a known problem of a crazy stall problem. It will not fly slow. The stall is always unexpected and uncontrollable. The Stratosurfer sounds like a way better airplane to buy instead. It is also a lot cheaper. The craftsmanship is also bad on the volantex Raptor. Wing screws are terrible to line up and install the wings. No holes or easy way to run the wires to the TX sitting on the boom in the rear.
